Windsor Castle.
"On all counts Windsor Castle has an undeniable right to
the epithet "Royal." No other word so fitly
characterizes that majestic pile of buildings on the
western bank of the "silver-streaming Thames;" it is
royal in its situation; its memories are of kings and
queens. From the days of William the Conqueror to the
present occupant of the English throne, through changes of dynasty during nigh
nine hundred years, it has been linked with the joys
and sorrows, the triumphs and defeats of the royal
house of Britain. Here have been born scions of
that house; here they have plighted their troth in
marriage; here they have lain down to die; here
not a few have been committed to their eternal rest."
